A kitchen remodel is an exciting and big project. One of the best things you can do to help your kitchen remodel run smoothly is to research and plan as much as possible before beginning the remodel. - Walkways – Don’t forget to design the walkways through your kitchen. Nothing is worse than feeling cramped in your own kitchen while cooking. Your walkways should be at least 36 inches wide unless you are in front of the stove, which should be 42 inches wide.
- Space – Think about how you will be using the space and design from there. Designing your silverware drawer and plate cupboard close to your dishwasher and your hot pad drawer near your oven will help to make the space a work well for your needs.
- Corners – Corners are difficult areas in a kitchen to design well. It is best to keep appliances away from corners and to always remember how corner cabinet doors swing to open and how that will affect other elements in the kitchen.
- Within Reach – If you have small children in the home, you may want to think about how you can design the kitchen to help them be able to use it. Placing kids’ cups and plates where they can reach them can be helpful. Also installing the microwave where they can reach it will help them to be able to fix themselves snacks and meals.
